Context

Bigger, cheaper data needed a MegaTel that looked new, but still looked like MegaTel.

MegaTel is a prepaid data brand in Hello Group's telecommunications portfolio, distributed by QMart. It came back with new LTE offers, bigger and cheaper than before: data bundles month to month, with no contract and no fibre installation, for people at home and small businesses.

The SIMs reach people in very different places: authorised dealers in malls and phone shops, and selected informal QMart dealers, who get their SIMs from QMart in strips. Once a SIM is sold, everything else (bundles, top-ups, support) moves into the MegaTel app.

The new offers needed a new feel, not a new brand. MegaTel already had resellers who knew it, and they had to tell the new SIMs from their old stock at a glance. At a mall counter, with nobody there to explain it, the SIM also had to look like a real product, not something thrown into a drawer.

Response

Go bolder, add an energetic green, and make the new SIM easy to tell from the old.

Rather than start over, the logo went bolder. It was redrawn heavier, the tops of the t and l were cut at an angle, and an energetic green came in: the dot became a lime-to-blue gradient that stays in colour even when the rest of the logo is reversed to white. It's still recognisably MegaTel, but a reseller can see straight away which SIMs are new. The palette pairs navy and deep navy with lime, green and blue. An animation shows the old logo becoming the new one.

The product

The SIM comes in two carriers, full size and half size, printed near-black with glowing blue spheres, with a card insert and a hang-sell starter pack under the name Wifi On The Go. The insert and the back of the pack are built around one action: download the MegaTel app.

Where it's sold

At the counter, a two-sided countertop stand holds a starter pack on a peg hook. One side leads with the entry bundle and a QR code to set up in two minutes; the other pushes the upgrade to bigger bundles. Posters, a pull-up banner and a teardrop flag take the campaign lines "Big data wherever you need it" and "Get Wifi On The Go" into the shop window and onto the pavement.

Staff wear the brand too: a T-shirt with a huge M cropped by the hem, and a golf shirt, both carrying the Distributed by QMart badge.
